From the South: Those using highway transport and coming from the south will probably choose either Interstate 77 or Interstate 85. From Interstate 77, access the Interstate 485 Innerloop near Charlotte and connect with Interstate 85 South and then U.S.74 Bypass West at Exit 10B. This route enters Cleveland County on its eastern border. Another option is to access Interstate 85 through the Greenville-Spartanburg area and then to Gaffney, S.C., to connect with N.C. Route 18 North into Cleveland County at its southern border, just 10 miles from Shelby.

From the north and northeast: Drivers can take Interstate 77 to access either Interstate 40 West or N.C. Route 150 West a little farther south. Drivers who remain on Interstate 40, can connect to N.C. Route 18 South to Shelby. Drivers who choose Route 150 can come all the way into Shelby on that highway. Drivers could opt to take Interstate 77, access Interstate 40 West, then U.S. Highway 321 South to Interstate 85 South and U.S. 74 Bypass West into Shelby.

From the north/northwest: Drivers can access Interstate 40 to connect to Interstate 26, which will connect with U.S. Route 74 Bypass heading east. Drivers who remain on Interstate 40 until east of Asheville can access U.S. Route 226 South to Shelby.
